If a fraud artist were to deposit a $500 counterfeit check to your account by posing as you, and then finagle a way to withdraw some of those funds before the bogus check bounces, it would look like you deposited the fraudulent check, wouldn't it? On the other hand, it happens all the time. Businesses send runners with deposits. Tenants deposit their rent to their landlords' accounts.
Some banks are more particular about whom they allow to make deposits to their customers' accounts. They may allow the obvious business deposits and deposits by a family member if they know them, but draw the line with unknown third parties.
