Can I Remove Myself?

Is it possible to take myself off of a joint bank account or joint CD account without having to close the account?

How you do this will depend entirely upon the policies of the bank holding the account. Many banks do require that an account be closed and re-established in order to make the change in account ownership a clean break. Then there are no questions about how to handle a check or electronic items previously authorized by the departing owner. Your bank may be willing to work with you to avoid having to close the account, but you'll need to contact it to find out.
