Opening Another Account While Still Owing NSFs

Can I get a new checking account at another bank with outstanding NSFs and owing my money to my bank account? I am paying my NSFs a little at a time at my bank now. I just need to know if I can open another and where to go. I live in Ocala, Florida. Also, which bank will do this for me? I realize all this is my fault and trying to correct it.

It depends on the bank. Some banks are very interested in your credit and deposit account history and some banks are interested in your history with them. You will have to call or visit the other banks and see what they say.

It may be that an account of your choice will be available, they may not allow any overdrafts on a new checking account or you may have only a savings account offered to you. Another option would be to sign up for a prepaid debit card. You can deposit money into the account which is behind the card, and only the card can access your money. This restricts you to only that money you have.
