Retention of Customer Account Records

How long must a bank keep a customer's account records? Is there a law or document that states this?

Untitled

There are federal regulations that require that most deposit records be maintained for a minimum of five years. In some cases, the five years is counted from the opening of the account, in others, from the date the record itself is created, as in the case of an individual transaction. In yet others, the time is counted from the time the account is closed. State laws can also affect how long records must be kept.
