Rule Governing Posting of Debits/Credits?

Is there a regulation on debits being posted before credits? I realized that my account was about to overdraw and immediately deposited more than enough money (in cash) to cover the transactions, and it was before 2pm. Should my cash deposit have been posted before these other transactions? I was told by the bank that cash is immediately deposited.

Your bank will decide if deposits are credited before debits, and if debits are paid in any certain order such as large items first, small items first, in the order received, in numerical order, etc. Take time to sit down with your bank and ask for an accounting based on the timing of your credits and debits. They should be able to explain your beginning and ending balance by adding and subtracting what happened that day.

Be aware though, that when a bank has a policy of the order of payment and debits vs. credits, these can change. They may or may not have to notify you of such a change.
