I recently found out that my grandmother and I had a bank account that I had forgotten about. How do I find the account number so I claim my funds. This account is about sixteen years old or more.

If the bank still exists, they may have a hard time telling you where that money is unless your grandmother was making deposits or withdrawals to keep it active. The bank can search its records based on yours and her Social Security numbers, address, etc. to look for an account.
The money may not even be there. All states have escheat laws. If an account is unused for a state defined period of time, the account is considered abandoned and the money is turned over to the state. You can look to the state where your account was and see if they still have a record of it.
Here is a helpful link that may help you. The state will probably not pay you interest. It could be that your amount was so small that it was not tracked or regular fees were charged on the deposit, and the funds were depleted.
