Offset Causes NSFs: What to do?

Chase withdrew every penny in my account as well as an account for which I am the payee on a beneficiary account. The reason for the debit was to offset an old account I had with WAMU. Since they merged, Chase took all the money. On the date of the withdrawal, I had a debit/check card item post, and they paid themselves first and charged me an NSF fee for the item. How is this an acceptable practice? Am I entitled to have the NSF fee refunded?

You can ask for a refund, but the bank isn't required to provide it. Banks can post entries to accounts in any order, and it's entirely possible that the bank's charge to the account was actually placed before the card item posted.
