If I open a bank account with my daughter and her check is garnished or creditors are after her, will that affect the account?
It certainly may. Each owner on the account has the ability to withdraw all of the funds. Nobody is keeping a tally of what is hers or yours or that she may be added to act on your behalf in case of emergency.
An owner has rights to the money in the account, and is also responsible for payment to the bank of any fees or overdrafts. If a lender or other party (say the IRS) has the rights to attach, garnish or levy the funds on deposit, it is all subject to be taken up to the amount owed.
