Depositing Check into Another's Account

How can I deposit a check into someone else's account? I'm writing the person a check and he said" "...just deposit it for me at my bank."

Some banks will accept this. I could walk into your bank and ask to deposit a check into your account. They may ask me for your checking account number, or they may be able to look it up if I provide enough information. If there is more than one account, that could be a problem, or without the number, they may refuse to even admit to me that you have an account. Without the number, they can certainly refuse the deposit and this is the most likely scenario. A very customer service oriented bank may even call you and ask if the deposit is OK to accept.

Also, when the deposit is made, some banks would give you a receipt without the complete account number, or could say they will mail the receipt to the account owner. This is all a matter of protecting the accountholder's information.
