Bank Freezes All Accounts: What to do?

We recently found out that our joint/personal/business accounts have been frozen. We have six checks that are being returned, and we don't even have money for diapers or gas. Can they really take every dime that we have, so that we don't even have money to live? Do they still have to cash a check made out to our business?

You need an attorney. Who froze your accounts and why? The bank is generally carrying out a legal order when this happens if your account is being levied or garnished because of unpaid taxes or a lawsuit you lost, as two examples. If you have a past due loan with the bank, they may setoff your balance by applying it against the loan. They wouldn't typically freeze the balance.

When such an event happens, they do not allow you to withdraw any living expenses. Future deposits may also be held depending on the amount owed and the amount in the account. Because no funds are available, no checks will be paid.
