Account Ownership After Death

My daughter has had some financial troubles, so I'm hesitant to put her on my deposit accounts as a joint owner, but I do want her to get that money when I die. Is there an option other than making her a joint owner that will enable her to get the funds after I'm dead?

Ask your bank whether it offers a Payable on Death (POD) option. It is a special designation that can be added to a deposit account that would allow the funds to pass upon your death to the person of your choice, such as your daughter. The funds pass outside your estate, which means that they don't have to go through probate. No special documents are required, and no court action is necessary.
