I was a victim of forgery and was diligent in reporting this forgery to my financial institution. How long legally does the financial institution have to make restitution to my account?

Although the Uniform Commercial Code (the state law that addresses how banks operate checking accounts) generally requires that you are entitled to reimbursement when a bank improperly makes an unauthorized check payment from your account, there is no deadline for the bank to make that reimbursement. Some banks routinely reimburse customers right away for smaller payments like this. When larger amounts are involved, a bank might postpone reimbursement until it had completed an investigation of the facts.
Gently remind the bank representative that you dealt with if you haven't received the refund within a week. If that doesn't yield results, you can escalate your reminder to a supervisor, branch manager, or executive officer within the institution.
