How do I go about locating my recently deceased grandmother's IRA account?
Before you contact every bank in town, take some time to sort through correspondence in your late grandmother's home. You may get very lucky and find a statement from the organization that holds the IRA. There's often a flurry of correspondence in the spring of each year, as year-end tax forms get delivered.
If you can't find correspondence from the IRA holder, see if there are some bank statements that show regular deposits that might be distributions from the IRA. If they arrived electronically, you will have a valuable clue as to their source. See if you can determine where your grandmother did most of her banking. She may have her IRA in the same bank.
