I am currently working for a company that only submits paychecks via direct deposit. Will I be able to open a bank account if I have written some NSFchecks more than ten years ago? If not, is there any other type of account that I can open where I can have these direct deposits submitted?

A bad check record that old should not affect your ability to open a checking account. If you do run into any trouble, you may be able to open a savings account instead.
