How long do banks usually keep account records? I need a statement that is from January or February 1991. How would I go about getting these old records?

Different records have different retention requirements and it can vary from state to state. Regardless, while you should contact your bank and ask if they may by some chance have this archived, you shouldn't be hopeful that a sixteen year old statement is available, and if it is, they will probably charge you by the hour for the research costs. It may be expensive, if they have it.
