Opening Bank Account after Being Denied

I need to open a new bank account, but I have been denied. What are my options? How can I go about opening a new account?

Many, but not all, banks check all applications for new accounts against a service like ChexSystems, and report to ChexSystems when they close out accounts for problems like overdrafts or mishandling. If you have had an account closed by another depository institution, and still owe that bank money for an overdraft, it might help to get that problem resolved, and ask the former bank to update its reporting to ChexSystems (or whatever service it uses). The only other thing you can do is to keep trying with other banks in your area.
