I am getting funds transferred into my account in Georgia from a person in Africa. Does the money go to the clearing house in New York before I receive it into my account?

There is no established routing for international wire transfers. Transfers may take a circuitous or direct route, depending upon reciprocal agreements between the participating institutions.
Don't do anything in reliance on the wire transfer unless you are certain that the funds have been received by your bank and credited to your account. Contact the bank yourself, using a telephone number that you already know or look up independently. Don't trust any number you receive from the party sending the funds or that you receive from an unverified source. Ideally, visit your bank branch and have someone there verify that the funds are in your account. This advice is based on knowledge of many wire transfer scams originating in certain parts of the world.
