Transferring Funds Between Accounts

I recently moved to another state and lost my ATM card and checks in the move. How do I go about transferring funds from my old bank account to my new credit union account?

Contact your old bank at once to notify them that your checks and ATM card are missing. Arrange to have your statements sent to your new address. Be prepared to provide your new bank with identification.

Then, decide whether you want your old bank to send you a check for the balance of your account or to wire transfer it to your credit union account. The latter option should be a lot faster, but both your old bank and your new credit union are likely to charge a fee for the transfer. If time is not critical, ask that the funds be mailed to you in a bank check.

If you decide to have the funds wire transferred to the credit union, check with the credit union first to make very sure how the wire should be routed. Be very careful to get all of their instructions down carefully. Then be very sure to relay those instructions carefully to your old bank. Check with the credit union the day after you ask for the funds to be wired, to ensure your money is there.
