Can I Use My Debit Card When I'm Overdrawn?

If my account is overdrawn by $50.00, can I still use my debit card to buy stuff, because I don't get paid until Friday?

Untitled

Your bank may permit debit card purchases even if there are not sufficient funds in your account. The bank can tell you if that's the case.

Be careful, though. Just because the bank lets you overdraw your account with your debit card doesn't mean it won't charge you its customary overdraft fee. If you run around making purchases, you could be adding around $30 to the cost of each purchase. Can you imagine paying $30.95 for a pack of gum? If your bank doesn't approve debit card purchases that overdraw accounts, it could save you a bundle!
