I have my business account and my personal accounts at the same bank. I accept credit cards from customers through my business. One such transaction seems to have been a scam and the business account has been debited for the charge. Can the bank take the money from my personal accounts to cover the charge back?
If your business is a sole proprietorship, you and the business are the same legal "person", and the bank could tap your personal accounts to cover an overdraft in your business account or other obligation to the bank. If your business is incorporated or owned by an LLC, it is a separate legal person, and the bank cannot legally reach your personal accounts to satisfy debts owed by the business to the bank, unless you have signed a personal guarantee of those debts.
