All in Wife's Name, but Husband Takes Charge

Can my husband take me off our business account if I have all licenses in my name as sole proprietor? He did this, and I transfered money to my personal account. Now he is saying I was not authorized. The business license is in my name; the L&I license is in my name, and the Department of Revenue documents are in my name.

The important fact is how the business account was held, because the deposit contract is quite separate from the license, business ownership, etc. While it's normal for account ownership to reflect the reality of the business, it's not always the case.

If the account was a joint account, your husband could close out the account, as could you. Removing you as a signer is something your husband could do if the account was in his name with you as an authorized signer.

There are contract and fact issues involved in your question. Talk to the bank and your husband about these. If the discussions don't agree with your vision of how things should be, you may have to discuss the problem with an attorney.
