Bank Lost Stop Order for Check: My Responsibility?

I placed a stop payment on a business check in the evening. I gave the bank representative all of the information; however, the stop payment was never processed, or for that matter, even found when I called about it the following day. The bank is telling me its still my problem, as they have twenty-four hours. How is that possible if all of the information given to the representative doesn't even exist in their computer? The bank also should have a responsibility of placing the stop payment into the bank's computer.

Unfortunately, unless you have documentation of the stop payment order, this boils down to your statement that the stop was placed and the bank's statement that it has no record of it. While the bank has the responsibility of placing the stop order information into its computer system, there doesn't seem to be a remedy available to you other than to place the stop again, unless the check in question has now been paid.
