Overdraft Problem

Our account has been overdrawn for thirty days because of a bank card. Our customer was slow paying us. I kept in touch with the bank and told them where the check was coming from, and why we were still overdrawn. This had never happened before. When I went to make the deposit, they had closed our account. We had never had a check unpaid anywhere at anytime. The bank card was used for $300. I was there with $3000. What can I do? It is a corporate check and I can't cash it, can I?

Thirty days is a relatively long time for someone to ask a bank to wait for a deposit to cover an overdraft, regardless of the circumstances. There are a couple of paths you can take. The first is to appeal to your (now) former bank to accept the deposit to resolve the overdraft, and to allow you to return to what had been a positive banking relationship. If necessary, take your appeal to a regional manager.

If it becomes apparent that your former bank won't take you back, then ask them to allow you to open a new bank relationship and to resolve the overdraft before they report their closure of the account to a credit reporting agency. Then go open that new account with the check you've got, wait for it to clear, and pay off the old overdraft right away.
