I just opened a business account with my bank for a small photography startup. I will be filing a DBA (Doing Business-As) in my county, and once processed, providing the documents to the bank, so that I can receive payments in the DBA business' name.
The name includes a number in it ("After 8 Photography"). If checks are written to a payee with the number spelled out "After Eight Photography", is it customary for banks to accept them? My banker said it shouldn't be a problem, but I'd like to know customary practice, and if I run the risk of having to return checks to be re-written with payee spelled exactly.

Banks have some discretion here and would generally accept these. They could hold to the letter of the law and refuse them, but you could expect to only see that if there was another business with that name.
