Documentation Needed to Open Account for Political Party

What documentation do we need to take to the bank in order to open a deposit account for a political party?

You will need to provide evidence of the organization's existence and the authority of the signatories. For a federal campaign, you will need a copy of the FEC Form 1, Statement of Organization. Federal election laws require you to file this form. You just need to provide the bank a copy to prove the organization exists.

For a state or local campaign, contact your state's election commission and obtain a copy of any publication they provide for candidates. Also, see if the campaign handbook has any specific guidance as to how the account should be titled - some do. As for other documentation, you will need an organizational resolution naming the signatories on the account (there may be signatories in addition to the Treasurer). Finally, you need an employer ID number ein(EIN) from the IRS. In some cases, the state election folks will say they have no such requirement, but this isn't an election commission rule, it's an einIRS regulation.
