Getting Funds from a CD

My mother has around $20k in a CD for my college. It was put there in my and her name by my grandfather. I have since moved away on my own, and I was wondering if there is any way I can go to the bank on my own and get the money, or at least have it transferred to my bank?

It's a little difficult to answer your question without knowing how the funds are held and how old you are. If they are in a Uniform Transfers to Minors Act account and you have not yet reached the age at which the custodian is supposed to turn the funds over to you, there's not really anything you can do without the consent of the custodian. However, if the funds are actually held jointly in your name and your mother's, you should contact the bank holding the CD to ask how you can access or move the funds.
