I went to the bank to open a CD and was told I could not do it. They could not say why, they just give a number to contact. What could be happening?
If the bank provided you a telephone number to call, it's probable that the bank obtained negative information on your account-holding record from a credit reporting agency such as ChexSystems. If you call that number, you can get the information that was given to the bank. You'll need to identify yourself to the agency's satisfaction, and determine whether that information is accurate or not. If it's not, you have rights to dispute the information. The bank is under no obligation to open a CD for you.
