About Redeeming CDs Early

My mother would like to access the money in her CDs, but they don't mature for several years. Would she lose any of the principal if she took them out early? I realize she loses the interest.

The contract for the CD itself should define what the penalty is. If you can't find that, call the bank and ask them what the penalty amount would be. In most cases it is interest, and not principal.
