My $20,000 CD matured, and I wanted to withdraw the funds from the bank in cash. The bank would not give me cash. Can they do this?
It's not that the bank won't give you cash, it is probably that it needs to issue a cashier's check, so that they can have your endorsement to document the fact that they have paid you and closed out the account. It's likely that the bank will have no problem cashing the cashier's check for you. Some limited service bank branches might not be able to cash a check that large, but they are rare. The safest method to use is to take the bank's cashier's check and deposit it in your account there or at another bank, but if you need the cash, the bank with the CD account should be able to accommodate you.
