Relative to the renewal of a CD, who is responsible for taking care of the account if owner is unable, or who is responsible at anytime the owner is no longer able? I'm the beneficiary of a CD. How do I find it if I can't remember the bank, or if the bank name has changed?
As a beneficiary you have no ownership interest in the CD. Even if you called a bank and asked about it, unless they have reason to believe the owner has passed and the funds actually belong to you, you aren't likely to get any information from them.
The owner of the account is responsible for it. If the owner is incapacitated, someone else should seek the legal authority to act on the owner's behalf. That person may be willing to discuss the account with you, or not. You have few rights, and realistically, may not be the beneficiary. Perhaps you should contact the owner and inquire.
