CDs from Defunct S&L: What to do?

I just found two long-forgotten certificates of deposit, one for each of my children. They were both issued on 8/21/1989 by Atlantic Financial, through their branch in North Huntingdon, PA. This was a savings and loan, because the CDs have the FSLIC logo. I am fairly sure that Atlantic Financial went under during the S&L crisis. Are these certificates worth anything and if so, how do I proceed?

Our sources show that Altantic Financial eventually ended up as part of Wells Fargo Bank. You can start with an inquiry at the Wells Fargo office closest to North Huntingdon, but don't be surprised if it has no records of the CDs in question.

A next stop would be the website operated by the association of state abandoned property administrators. You may find something there, or go directly to the Pennsylvania Unclaimed Property office's website.
