Locating Very Old CD

Where can I find a sixteen year old CD account? My mother has a certificate of deposit that reads: Jenny Doe ATF Jinkee Doe. My mother is the latter. I inquired at the bank, who said that because of the seven year policy, they have no records. I've been to City Hall; it has not been subjected to escheat. I inquired at Missing Money/Unclaimed Properties; it's not there. Where will I look for it? What shall I do?

There is no database other than the bank's and the state's escheated funds where you should look. If it is in neither of these, you should first attempt to verify that the "As Trustee For" account was never cashed. It may be that the old records of the account were purged because the account ceased to exist.

Banks don't issue paper certificates today, as they once did. Many customers who held their CD certificates lost them. Banks had procedures in place to document the loss and allow the CD to be cashed or retrieved, as desired by the customer. Having a CD doesn't mean there is an account.
