I just applied for an apartment and they asked me what bank I use and an estimate of how much money I have in the account. I exaggerated how much I had by about $200. Is there any way that they can find out how much money I have in my account?
If they do a "verification of deposit" they will know what is in your deposit account, but that is a form you would have signed, authorizing that inquiry. Privacy laws should otherwise protect your information. Your prospective landlord will be able to access your credit report, but that doesn't include your bank balance.
