I returned an item to a store and I just was wondering how long it takes to show the credit to my checking account?
Assuming you're referring to a purchase made with your debit card, that the merchant agreed to refund the purchase price, most merchants are very prompt in their processing of such refunds. There may be a delay of a day or two (as there might have been for the posting of the original purchase transaction).
If the credit has not posted to your account within one week, contact the merchant to inquire about the transaction. There may have been a processing delay or problem.
If that doesn't resolve the matter, you should contact your bank. Provide the bank a written statement with a copy of the return sales transaction showing that your card would be credited, and indicate that you have contacted the merchant without success.
