Opening a Joint Account for Bills

Can my boyfriend and I open a joint checking account for bills and rent of our townhouse?

If neither you nor your boyfriend has any negative checking account history (accounts closed for overdraft or mishandling, for example), there's nothing that would prevent your opening a joint account. Any funds that either of you put into the account can be withdrawn by either of you. There is no his and hers rule on a joint account, and if either of you overdraws the account, each of you will be liable to bring the account back to a positive balance.
