Depositing Individual Check to Joint Account

If I want to deposit my husband's check to our joint account, can I just write "for deposit only" and the account number? Does he have to sign it also? He is not readily available to sign.

Many banks allow checks payable to their depositors to be deposited to the payee's account, including a joint account, without actual endorsement. In fact, there is a provision of the Uniform Commercial Code (section 4-205) that's been adopted in most states that specifically provides for deposits of unendorsed checks. If you have any concern about whether your bank will accept the check for deposit, ask a bank representative.
