My Mistake, Can I Fix It?

I put the wrong name on a check and it's my last one. Can I just put a single line through it and initial it?

This is not recommended. Any bank asked to handle the check, including yours, would be justified in refusing the accept it for deposit or for payment, because no one will be able to know for sure who altered the payee name. While technically what you propose should be acceptable, in practice it has a high potential for being misunderstood as an illegal alteration.
