I stopped payment on an electronic debit from my checking account and now they are sending it through with an amount .01 less than the amount I put on the stop payment form. Do I have to stop payment again on the different amount and pay the fee again, or will my bank take care of it because its the same place?
Call your bank and ask them to adjust the stop payment amount. Some shady originators of electronic transactions will do this sort of thing to "fly under the radar" on stop payments. It's a rules violation.
If your bank fails to catch any of these charges because they are off by a penny, you will have a right to file an error claim, stating that you did not authorize the transactions. Be prepared to assist your bank in obtaining a refund by completing what the bank will call a "written statement under penalty of perjury" (or a WSUPP).
