How long must a bank retain copies of my statements, checks, and deposit slips?


The bank has to keep records that will enable it to reconstruct activity on your account, including transactions, checks and deposits, for a minimum of five years. Most banks hold that information for six or seven years. Longer holding periods may apply on a state-by-state basis.
