Bank Debiting Account without Consent

I have been debited for a redeposit fee from a company I've never heard of. My check cleared on the second try. Does the bank have the right to debit my account without my consent?

Such fees are actually quite common, and they are often generated by a third party company on behalf of the merchant to whom a check was made payable. The merchant should have disclosed to you that a bounced-check fee could be imposed. If the check was a bill payment, the notice should have been on or with the bill. If you wrote the check at the merchant location, you should have been given a copy of the notice. If you believe that you did not receive the required notice, you may dispute the fee with your bank.
