Bank Error Gives Information to Ex

I recently got a divorce. I closed all joint accounts with my ex, and opened a new account with just my name on it. My Ex went to my bank, wrote a check from one of the jointly owned previous closed accounts. The bank not only cashed this check, but wrote my new account number on the back of it. They are now telling me that I am responsbile to pay these funds. Can you give me bank regulations to show them they are wrong?

If the joint accounts were truly closed, the bank is, for lack of a better phrase, blowing smoke. Once the joint account closed, any liability for that account ended, and the check your ex-spouse cashed should have been refused. Tell the bank that you won't be responsible for its employee's error in giving the funds to your former spouse, and ask for your money, and any fees, back.
