My fiance and I are considering opening a jointchecking account for bills. I suffered a job loss and fell behind on mortgage payments, but have since caught up. As a result, my credit score dropped. How much, if any, will this affect the bank's decision on us opening a joint checking account?

Some banks look at a deposit applicant's full credit record. Others check only for negative information relating to prior handling of deposit accounts. For the former group, your temporary payment problems may have some effect; for the latter, it's likely there will be no record of those mortgage problems.
Each bank has its own criteria for opening accounts. It can't be predicted whether a bank that views your payment history will accept or deny your account-opening request.
