Statement Question

My statement said available $31.00 in parentheses. Does that mean the amount is positive or negative?

Untitled

If the amount is in parentheses, it's a negative amount. Other ways to display negative amounts are to place a minus sign either before or after the dollar amount, or to be really plain, and label the balance as "overdrawn."

In this case, it appears the bank has allowed you to tap funds that are not yet available. You may incur a fee when you do that, and/or the bank may refuse to pay checks drawn on unavailable funds.
