Gambler Needs Protection from Himself

Why would a bank let me take money out of my account in the excess of $1000, so that I am in the negative? I am a problem gambler and know I need to stop my stupidity, but as of now I have probably given my bank about $2,000 dollars in fees in the last four months. Are there any laws or anything to protect people from being taking advantage of for my horrible addiction? I know it is my fault and have paid the fees, but to this day, they still allow me to put myself about a $1000 in the hole when I only have $20 in my account.

You can ask your bank if it has a "no overdrafts" option for your account. Some banks will honor a customer's express request that no overdrafts be paid. If your bank won't do it for you, look for one that will.

The bank did not create your overdraft; you did. The first step in any recovery from your problems with gambling will be assuming responsibility for your own behavior.
