I have a checking account and have been out of work for a year. A credit card company garnished my account. I owe the credit card company $4,000, and all I had in my account was $459, which they took. The paperwork was a garnishment settlement for the balance in my account. What happens with the checking account now? My family has been helping me and that was the money they gave me to eat and live while I am looking for employment. Will my account not be closed or what happens now?

The decision to close your account is your bank's, one that may be influenced by the possibility there will be additional garnishment orders on the account unless the judgment against you is satisfied.
