I don't have an ID card or a driver's license, but I need a checking account. How can I get one?

Banks are required by statute and regulation to verify their new customers' identities. Without some standard form of government-issued identification, you will have a difficult time opening a checking account.
If you are a U.S. citizen, you should find out what forms of identification your state issues if you choose not to or cannot obtain a driver's license. Then take whatever steps are required to obtain a state ID card. You could also attempt to obtain a passport, if you don't already have one that is still in effect, because some banks will accept a passport as a government-issued ID when a driver's license or state ID is not available. If you are not a U.S. citizen and carry a foreign passport, you may find a bank that will open an account for you with the passport as your ID document.
