Removing a Name from an Account

My husband had his mother's name on his checking account, when he was working overseas, before we were married. (We are in Idaho.) However, now we are married, and my name is on the account too. I had to have his mother sign to say I could. I would like to have her name removed from the account. Can this be done, and how?

If you are a joint owner of the account, the solution is actually quite simple. Close the account out and open another. That will, of course, require your husband's involvement in signing up for the new account, and you will have to make sure that any automatic transfers to or from the old account are redirected to the new one.

That's the cleanest way to resolve the matter, and it doesn't need any involvement by your mother-in-law. Your husband should let her know after the fact, that the old account has been closed.
