Can a creditor take money from my checking account without my permission?
Untitled
Yes, if your creditor is successful in convincing a court that you are in default on your debt and obtains a judgment against you, it can use an attachment or garnishment process to first block your access to funds in your account and ultimately to have those funds turned over to the creditor. Of course, that presumes that the creditor can locate and identify your bank account. If you've ever given the creditor a check in partial payment of your debt or another debt, the creditor will know about the account on which the check was drawn, and may be able to access other accounts you have in the same bank.
