I thought I was being charged a $5.00 monthly service fee per the automated system, for my checking account. Two years later, I found out it was for a membership program that I never approved. The bank said that I had two months to dispute the charges, and now they are not liable to refund me. Apparently, this was noted on my monthly statement. I used the automated phone system to check my account and it states "monthly service fee." Am I screwed?

The use of "monthly service fee" on your statement in connection with a membership program could easily be considered misleading at best, and deceptive at worst. On the other hand, it is unknown what kind of information the bank provided you about the membership program and your ability, if any, it opt out of it when you opened your account, so it is impossible to say whether you have a right to get all those fees refunded or not. You might raise the misleading wording on your bank statement as an issue and ask the bank to consider making a refund, presuming that you have told the bank that you don't want to continue paying for the membership you've never used.
