Is a record made in my account that I cashed a check for a large amount ($8000)? I have an account at a bank, but do not plan to keep the money in the account.

There's no record maintained in connection with your account when you cash a check made payable to you by a third party. The bank will, however, maintain a record of the transaction just as it maintains a record of virtually every check it processes, for at least five years. That record isn't connected to you except for the fact that the image of the check will carry your name.
